00100 FREE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
00200
00300 The idea of creating a Mid-Peninsula Free University Alumni
00400 Association has met considerable interest among recent alumni (alias
00500 dropouts) from the Mid-Peninsula Free University who are dismayed by
00600 recent changes in the policies, activities, and people of the Free U.
00700 In a word, the revolutionaries have ripped it off. The following are
00800 some suggested principles for the Alumni Association:
00900
01000 1. The Association will carry out Alumni seminars, be-ins,
01100 publication, politics, and such other activities as may occur to its
01200 members.
01300
01400 2. The Association will be governed as a participatory
01500 democracy with a provision for referring very important issues where
01600 a group feels the meeting is unrepresentative to a membership
01700 referendum. It is to be understood that this is a safety mechanism
01800 to prevent coups rather than a normal procedure.
01900
02000 3. In any demonstrations, the Association is dedicated to
02100 non-violence, and in its publications, the policy shall be to avoid
02200 name calling and exaggeration.
02300
02400 4. The financial policy of the organization shall be prudent
02500 enough so that finances will not occupy a major part of the meeting
02600 time. This implies a very small paid staff if any, and a publication
02700 schedule based on the availability of money.
02800
02900 5. In our opinion, American institutions need major changes
03000 to make them serve human happiness, to stop and prevent exploitation
03100 and aggression, and to permit full participation in decision-making
03200 at all levels by the people affected by the decisions. The
03300 Association is not dedicated as yet to any one conception of "whose
03400 fault" the present problems are, what the future society should be
03500 like, or how to get there from here. We believe that a large
03600 contribution can be made by experimental institutions within the
03700 present society, offering and experimenting with new forms of
03800 education, communal living, cultural forms, life styles, and ways of
03900 making a living. Our part is to encourage through our seminars and
04000 other activities, discussion, research, experimentation, and
04100 implementation of these revolutionary possibilities.
04200
04300 6. We don`t know if everyone will be happier in the future,
04400 but we are sure that everyone can have more political, social, and
04500 economic freedom, and we are dedicated to promoting the mental and
04600 spiritual freedom needed to take advantage of the opportunities for
04700 everyone to pursue happiness in his own way.
